Who likes football?

ChelseaAs you probably have already discovered (since I have not made any entry lately), I have had some quite chaotic weeks. This doesn´t mean that nothing has happened, au contraire! But I have not even had time to write them here….

This week I will finish the Project I am in, and I start in a new one, it looks like it will be more of the same, and although logistically I am not sure where I will be or which percentage of my time I will be travelling, I guess it will be quite similar to what I have been doing lately, but when I learn something else I will let you know!

Last weekend, my husband and the boys came to the UK, and we stayed at our friends´ who have to daughters almost the same age of our boys. They get along really really well specially since they only see each other a couple of times a year. These girls they do speak a “perfect” british English, when they read a story it sounds to one of those Audio books which they play in the children English lessons and it is beautiful.

I took the family to my favourite chinese restaurant, (yes, that one, you know which one) so that my friend, the chinese girl could meet them, (and she can check who eats the nice food she wraps for me every week). We met our friends there, (we have been friends for 13 years now) all friends together it was so nice… (all but one, we missed you Jean!) and we had a really supernice dinner (as always), Of course it is much better to eat it fresh instead than reheating it after defrosting (even if this way it is also good!)

I don´t know if you have evern seen in the football matches when some children come out with the players at the beginning of the match, yes? Well, this past weekend I learned that the children that come out there are put in a looooong “years” long waiting list, and then there is a lottery, although I don´t know how does it go. Well, my friends´ eldest daughter was a Chelsea “mascot” about a month ago, after being in the waiting list since she was born (Jeeeez).

On Sunday, the child went to church with her mom while the rest of us stayed at the house, and my proud friend switched on the TV and played the video where his daughter comes out with the player (I think Thierry, but hey, I have no clue about football!).

He was so proud, and wanted to show it to my boys (have I ever told you “how much” my boys like football?) so he goes like “Hey boys! Come! Come here! Look at this!!!! Look!” superproud and happy to show off… My boys go into the living room and watch at the TV, then he goes on “Look! Look there, looks who is there!!!” and the TV shows the girl coming out to the stadium with that superfamous player, and then Jon (who has inherited from his parents and absolute ignorance about football), says: “Wowwwww, but but but what is she doing there? I thought she was at church!!!!!”

Well, finishing with the anecdotes, some of you may think that going to the UK for just a weekend with the boys is not worth it, but it is!

Obviously they don’t learn any English in a weekend, but what they do is to open their mind, and understand and realize what another language is used for, they see how other people just talk in that other language and they can only communicate to them if they try to talk in that language.

And even their attitude now has changed towards English, the older one was already ok but the small one who before always wanted me to switch to Spanish, now when I talk to English he doesn’t ask me to change back to Spanish anymore, sometimes he asks “What did you say?” of course, but he also has started to answer me some easy things in english which he didn’t do before… so Yes, for me it’s worth it!!!
